Dress Code by Class Style

Proper dancewear helps teachers see alignment, keeps dancers safe, and creates a focused classroom environment. Hair should always be secured away from the face for every class.

Ballet

  • Girls: Leotard, pink tights, and ballet slippers (leather or canvas WITHOUT ties). Skirts are optional. Hair in a neat bun.

  • Boys: Fitted t‑shirt, dance shorts or tights, and barefoot or ballet slippers.

  • No baggy shirts, jackets, or jewelry in class.

Jazz

  • Any fitted dancewear: leotard, tank top, or fitted tee with black leggings, jazz pants, or dance shorts.

  • Jazz shoes (colors may vary year to year depending on costume).

  • Hair pulled back in a ponytail or bun; no loose hair or large jewelry.

Tap

  • Any combination of leotard, fitted top, black leggings, or dance pants (no jeans or baggy sweats).

  • Tap shoes (black is typical, but follow your class requirement).

  • Shoes should fit snugly with laces or straps secured.

Hip Hop

  • Comfortable, easy‑to‑move‑in clothing such as leggings, joggers, sweatpants, and t‑shirts (no jeans or tight skirts).

  • Clean sneakers reserved for dance only so floors stay safe and clean.

  • Hats and layered tops are fine as long as they do not block vision or movement.

Lyrical / Contemporary

  • Fitted dancewear such as a leotard and footless/stirrup tights. Skirts are optional.

  • Half‑sole “turners,” lyrical shoes, or bare feet, depending on teacher preference.

  • Hair secured off the face in a ponytail or bun.

Acro / Tumbling

  • Fitted clothing like leotards, biketards, or snug tops with shorts or leggings (no loose t‑shirts or baggy shorts).

  • Bare feet, unless your teacher specifies otherwise.

  • No jewelry or accessories that could catch on mats or impede movement.

Preschool / Combo Classes

  • Young dancers may wear any color leotard with tights; skirts or dance dresses are welcome.

  • Correct dance shoes for the styles in their combo (for example, ballet slippers WITHOUT ties and tap shoes).

  • Hair pulled back from the face; add sweaters or warm layers only at the start of class if needed.

General Dress Code Reminders

  • Clothes should be fitted enough that teachers can see posture and alignment.

  • No jeans, street shoes, or outdoor sneakers on the dance floor.

  • Write your dancer’s name in all shoes and bags to prevent mix‑ups
